Main Idea
Here is what Mrs. Kemper and Mrs. Boles say about main idea: Great writers know that their paragraphs have a main idea and supporting details. The main idea is the most important information the author wants you to know. The supporting details are the sentences that support, or backup, the main idea. Supporting details can be information such as names, places, and descriptions that help readers understand the main idea. For your comment write a short paragraph that has a main idea and three supporting details.
